Alfalfa Leaf
Alfalfa helps breast tissue development and the milk duct system to proliferate. It can increase milk supply and increase the fat content of your milk. She helps to nourish and cleanse the body, supporting the liver and pituitary gland function.
Alfalfa is one of the oldest crops known and referenced in scriptures from before 1300 B.C! It’s been used to support lactation for ages. Alfalfa is considered a superfood because of its high vitamin and mineral content which supports fertility, lactation, and detoxification in the body. It contains phytoestrogens that resemble estrogens that can attach to their receptors.
How does that work?
Lactation hormones responsible for making milk, such as prolactin, are made and stored in the pituitary gland. Estrogen signals the pituitary gland to make and secrete prolactin. Because alfalfa is a phytoestrogen, it supports that process.
Alfalfa leaf alone contains vitamin K, vitamin C, Folate, Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) and Vitamin B6. It also contains many minerals, such as Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, Potassium, Phosphorus and Calcium.
Nettle Leaf
Stinging nettle is a highly nutritious herb that is believed to stimulate the milk production and thus increase your breast milk supply. It’s richness in iron builds up blood supply and fights postpartum fatigue (or anemia).
Nettle is another herb with galactagogue properties. This herb helps to increase breastmilk production. Traditional midwives also use(d) nettle infusions to reduce postpartum bleeding.
The medical use of nettle dates back to ancient Greece and is used for far more than pregnant and postpartum women. Nettle leaf has been used to treat inflammation, joint pain, hay fever, arthritis, eczema, gout, and even battle and burn wounds have been treated with nettle.
High levels of vitamins & minerals like iron, calcium, potassium, folic acid, B vitamin, vitamin K, and essential amino acids provide essential nutrients.
Fenugreek Seeds
Fenugreek is another impressive herb that’s been used in alternative medicine for a long time. Aside from has benefits for lowering blood sugar levels and digestive issues, it’s known to boost breastmilk production and flow. Breastfeeding mothers have widely been drinking pure fenugreek tea for ages.
Fennel Seeds
Fennel seed mimics estrogen to stimulate breast milk production and breast tissue growth. Crazy, right? This powerhouse seed is also a postpartum beauty aid, improving skin tone and hair health, as well as promoting sound sleep & soothing digestive issues in mom and colic in infants.
Dandelion Leaf & Chamomile Flowers
These power-flowers are no specific breastmilk boosters, but needed to be included in our melange. Some women do report increased milk production, but taking enough liquids and nutrients is very important and beneficial anyway. For us, Dandelion &. Chamomile are important for their flavor & wealth of nutrients.
Dandelion helps the body to repair tears and skin tissue by boosting the immune system and encouraging healthy cell growth. Dandelion is ancient herbal medicine that helps to detox the liver, promotes to create bile and indirectly helps with constipation.
Dandelion has the ability to stop the body from retaining water, helping you to pee and flush out toxins. It helps to cleanse and maintain correct liver health, which is essential to keep the blood filtered and detoxed. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which play a major role in many ailments and diseases.
She has tons of anti-oxidants, and is high in vitamins A & C. They As it promotes the liver to create bile, it also indirectly helps with constipation.
And Chamomile… being our go-to herbal tea, she’s the glue that blends it all together. Chamomile is said to alleviate postpartum depression and sleep problems.
